The Office of Budget and Planning is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the University’s operating budget and reporting on the status of the budget to the administration, reviewing requests for revisions to unit budgets, preparing the University’s operating budget request to the Illinois Board of Higher Education., and preparing documentation to support our annual General Revenue appropriation that is required by the Illinois General Assembly and Governor’s Office of Management and Budget.
We are located in Altgeld Hall, room 232 of the Finance & Facilities office suite.

Abby has been employed by NIU since 1979. She became the Associate Director of Budget, in 1999. Previously, she served in the following positions: Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Finance & Facilities, Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Business Services and as an Internal Auditor. She is an NIU graduate with a Bachelors of Science in Accountancy and an MBA. She passed the CPA exam. Prior to starting her career at NIU, she worked for a medium sized CPA firm.

Dena has been employed by NIU for 20 years. She has been Assistant Director of Budget and Planning since 2002. Previously she worked as the Business Manager for International Programs. She is an NIU graduate with a Bachelors of Science in Management.
Gregg Fieffer

Gregg has been employed by NIU since March 2000. He earned both his master’s and bachelor’s degrees from NIU in 2003 and 1986, respectively. His professional background is diverse: he has worked in both public accounting and in the manufacturing industry, rising to the level of Controller of an industrial concern in northern DeKalb County. Gregg also held management positions in the retail sector.

Shante' has been an employee since 2004. In May of 2005 Shante' received an internship as a Budget Analyst in our division. In February 2007 she became a full-time employee after receiving her Bachelors in Finance from NIU. She also has work experience preparing income tax returns.
