The function
of Parking Services is to coordinate all matters relating
to the operation and parking of vehicles on university-owned
property, including the enforcement of regulations.
Parking regulations
were established by the Campus Parking Committee of this
university, authorized by the president pursuant to the
authority vested in him by the Board of Trustees, and
have been adopted for your convenience, safety and welfare.
A copy of the NIU Motor Vehicle and Parking Regulations
may be obtained from Parking Services.
The majority
of parking lots and university-owned streets are reserved
or permit parking Monday through Friday between the hours
of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., or otherwise as posted. In
order to park in nonmetered lots and streets during these
reserved hours, a parking permit must be displayed. Parking
permits are color-coded for use in the corresponding color-coded
lots.
Temporary parking
permits are available for short-term parking or in unusual
circumstances.
Service permits,
for designated areas, are available on a yearly basis
to qualified applicants.
Loading/unloading
is allowed in designated areas for the time period specified
on the sign. No special identification is required other
than use of the vehicle's emergency flashers.
Visitors to
campus should be directed to Lot P-1, our visitor pay-parking
facility located on Carroll Avenue west of Founders Library.
Metered parking is also available. Campus maps can be
obtained at Parking Services, and can be sent to guests
in advance of their visit. If neither the visitor lot
nor metered parking areas meet the needs of your guest,
you may contact Parking Services to request a temporary
permit. Please do not assume that tickets issued to guests
will be voided.
Planning for
conferences, meetings, or special events must include
notifying Campus Parking Services, whether participants
will be arriving by bus or by car. Appropriate arrangements
can then be made with the coordinator of the group to
insure adequate parking and to avoid guests being ticketed.
For further
information about parking or to register your vehicle,
phone 753-1045 between the hours of 7:45 a.m. and 4:30
p.m. Monday through Friday.
