NIU COMMUTER PARKING TIPS
Typically, parking is more difficult in the first two weeks of classes at the beginning of a new semester. Parking is strictly on a first-come, first-served basis, so remember to arrive on campus as early as possible, especially during the first two weeks of each semester.
Reduce your wait time by parking in a lot that generally has available spaces at the time you arrive to campus.
Parking lots located close to classroom buildings are generally full between the hours of 9am and 2pm (peak times).
Allow sufficient time to find a parking space and to walk to your destination.
Read posted signs at all parking lots.
Do not park in reserved spaces. If parked in a reserve space you risk receiving an $80 fine and having your vehicle towed at your expense.
Report non working meters to Campus Parking Services at 815-753-1045.
Always keep your NIU parking map in your vehicle.
Read the NIU parking regulations you received with your permit.
There are certain blue lots open to yellow permit holders after 4PM . Check your map for these lots or call Campus Parking Services for assistance.
Practice your driving route to campus.
Determine alternate driving routes to campus in case of heavy traffic.
Student parking permits are available online at the parking website.
